Dr Felix Blaine; MBChB MRCGP / Dip Derm / MAPPCP
As a GP I have always believed that health is not simply treating disease but promoting overall wellbeing. As a GP in Worcester for 13 years I worked to improve the overall health system leading developments in primary care, end of life care and respiratory care. I would frequently see people become ‘stuck’ in their health, unable to find a way to overcome obstacles to health issues. Through my learning and research, I found approaches that were used internationally and as part of this developed Worcestershire’s first specialist chronic pain service. I led two separate teams that won national awards for developing end of life services and supporting health in deprived communities.
In 2016 I moved to Qatar where I ran an addiction rehabilitation unit at Naufar, a specialist addiction and wellness hospital. I continued to explore why people were unable to overcome health obstacles and how to help them through this. I completed my Masters in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology in 2021 and am currently undertaking my PhD in Psychology investigating Mindfulness and Nature Connection. I am interested in how nature connection can promote health and wellness. I have a long personal practice of mindfulness and am qualified to use mindfulness and different psychotherapeutic techniques in order to help people learn to overcome health challenges.
As a physician my passion is using health coaching to help people improve their wellbeing. My experience is in the psychology of how we change behaviour and overcome health challenges. Specifically in addiction, chronic pain, managing chronic conditions, healthy eating, and sleep.
My other passion is nature and animals. In 2015 after years of work my wife and I set up Mahouts Elephant Foundation. A charity working in Thailand supporting Karen indigenous people to develop community-based tourism to allow them to support their elephants to live freely in their vast community forests.
